Continuous Ongoing Professional Education (COPE)

A Performance Improvement CME Program targeting Professionalism, Interpersonal & Communication Skills, and Systems-based Practice. The activity helps participants learn and implement new behavioral skills to enable them to function in an increasingly complex medical environment. As part of the activity learners will assess and document specific behavioral changes. The program focuses on development of knowledge and skills in the core competency areas of Professionalism, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, and Systems-based Practice.

Program Agenda

Stage A

Participants complete self-assessment measures

Data are scored and reviewed

Feedback meeting with review of assessments

Design of Learning Plan

Development of Learning Objectives

Stage B

Implementation of Individualized Learning Plan

Participation in small group discussion sessions (offered live and via the Internet)

Participation in experiential exercises

Completion of Reading Assignments

Presentation of Written Assignments

(programming is conveniently offered in the late afternoon and on Saturdays to minimize disruption to work schedule)

Stage C

Re–evaluation (assessment measures are repeated)

Guided reflection on performance

Summary of practice and/or outcome changes

Completion of intend to change plan

Completion of relapse prevention plan

CME Components

  • Stage A: Learning from Current Practice Performance Assessment
  • Stage B: An Intervention Based on Practice Performance Assessment
  • Stage C: Learning from the Assessment of the PI Intervention

Credit Statement:The AAFP has reviewed COPE (Continuous Ongoing Professional Education) and deemed it acceptable for up to 20.00 Performance Improvement AAFP Prescribed credit. Term of Approval is from 1/1/2023 to 1/1/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
